Several new courses have been added at South Park High School and South Park Middle School this school year.
At South Park High School, two new courses were offered to students. Introduction to Computer Science is a one-semester course where students learn computer programming basics using Python. AP Computer Science is a full-year course where students learn the basics of object-oriented programming with a focus on problem-solving and algorithm development. AP Computer Science is the tenth AP course offered at South Park High School.
At South Park Middle School, eighth grade students will take the new Introduction to Foreign Language class. The course provides students with samplings from the three foreign languages offered at South Park High School. Students are introduced to the basics of German, French and Spanish and learn lessons about the customs and cultures associated with these languages.
A career awareness and readiness class has been implemented at South Park Middle School this year. This class, taught by Mrs. Ruscitto, meets the mandates of Chapter 339 by covering career standards at each grade level at the middle school. Students are equipped with the tools to transition to high school and beyond. Students will engage in Naviance portfolio development, presentation and public speaking activities and group projects. Topics that will be covered include goal setting, career cluster studies, entrepreneurship, interviewing skills and post-secondary education options. Students will learn via webinars, field trips and interactions with guest speakers.
