South Park School District Families:

We are shocked and saddened by the horrific shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday. This senseless tragedy deeply affects all of us – educators, parents, guardians, grandparents, students, and community members.

South Park School District administrators and staff work continuously to ensure safe, secure, and supportive learning environments. Our director of school police Todd Naylor and school police officer Joe Cawley bring decades of experience to our district and have a daily presence in our schools. The district’s emergency operations and safety plan is regularly enhanced and evaluated by our local and state law enforcement partners. Training and drills with our staff and students take place often. The most recent staff drill took place just last month. Crisis prevention and crisis response training will continue to be a crucial part of the district’s robust safety plan.

The images and stories from Uvalde, Texas are heartbreaking and can be difficult to see and process. UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh has provided this resource for families following a tragedy. Additionally, the National Association of School Psychologists has prepared this resource for parents and educators.

The South Park School District will continue to act with the safety of our students, faculty, and staff as our first priority.

Sincerely,

Wayne P. Gdovic
Superintendent of Schools
South Park School District
