Dear South Park School District Families and Staff,
We are writing to provide an update regarding the recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, the software vendor that provides our Student Information System (SIS).
As of January 29 PowerSchool has begun notifying individuals whose information was determined to be involved in the incident. This breach occurred within PowerSchool's systems, not ours, and the district was first informed of this incident on January 7. To review our initial communication, please click here.
As previously communicated, PowerSchool has partnered with Experian, a trusted credit reporting agency, to offer complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services to all current and former students and educators whose information was exfiltrated from the PowerSchool SIS. In the coming weeks, Experian (on behalf of PowerSchool) will send direct email notifications to affected individuals (or their parent/guardian, as applicable) for whom PowerSchool has sufficient contact information.
Additionally, PowerSchool has worked with Experian to establish a dedicated, toll-free call center to address any questions regarding these services and the incident. Information on how to activate these services will be included in the email from Experian. Whether or not you receive an email, you may also visit PowerSchool’s website for more details on how to access these services here: http://www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/notice-of-united-states-data-breach/
The South Park School District remains committed to ensuring that PowerSchool takes all appropriate measures to address this incident and protect the security of our student and staff information. The safety and well-being of our school community will always be a top priority of the district.
