The morning announcements have come a long way at South Park Middle School. Gone are the days of making morning announcements over the PA system. Now, South Park Middle School students are using the high-tech tools of their new television studio to broadcast news, weather, sports and the day’s lunch menu to students, faculty and staff.

Students in sixth through eighth grades began to broadcast the morning announcements before winter break. They are using 4K-capable cameras, audio equipment and professional software with the help of Mr. Brian Duggan and Mr. Alex Whittington. Every morning, students prepare scripts and set up the equipment before recording the broadcast. Students use Chroma Key technology to change the green wall behind the student-anchors into a backdrop of the city of Pittsburgh. A group of students in the control room is responsible for the broadcast’s audio and graphics.

“The students enjoy being part of this dedicated team and look forward to using the studio for broadcasting other school events,” said Mr. Whittington.
