The plan takes effect immediately. The details of the approved plan are the same as those shared with families on Monday, August 9. Some of the key points include:

Masks are required on all district transportation, per the order from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. All students who ride a district bus or van must wear a mask over their nose or mouth at all times while on the bus or van.

The district strongly encourages, but does not require, all individuals to wear masks while in district buildings.

Physical distancing in classrooms, cafeterias and other spaces will be maximized to the greatest extent possible.

Water bottle refill stations remain operational in all buildings. Students are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle to school with them each day.

Most district transportation routes will return to pre-pandemic capacity levels.

The district will continue to focus on the thorough, deep cleaning of all facilities, based on CDC standards.

Coils inside all HVAC units will be routinely deep cleaned. Air turnover rates will be increased. More outside air will be brought in during normal operation.

Classroom/bus windows are to be opened if/when possible.

The district must adhere to contact tracing requirements by the Allegheny County Health Department, Pennsylvania Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Without universal masking, the definition of a close contact in schools remains any individual within 6 feet of an infected person for 15 minutes or more any time up to two days before symptom onset or a positive test. Close contacts are required to quarantine. Any individual who provides proof of full vaccination will not be required to quarantine if they remain symptom free. The Allegheny County Health Department has told school districts that it will be the main source of contact tracing and notification this school year.

The district and its schools will be sharing much more back-to-school information with families next week. We will also welcome students into the buildings for our scheduled orientations next week. The first day of school will be Wednesday, August 25, 2021. A full school year calendar can be found by clicking here.

We hope you enjoy the remaining days of summer, and we are looking forward to the start of another school year on August 25.
