Based on the directive from Governor Tom Wolf and the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the South Park School District will remain closed until further notice. District events and activities are suspended, postponed, or canceled until further notice.

UPDATE SHARED ON THURSDAY, MARCH 26

We hope that you are doing well and staying safe and healthy. With the school closure lengthened through at least Monday, April 13, 2020, the South Park School District is preparing to enter a new phase of instruction in the coming week. While plans are being finalized and communication is being reviewed, we wanted to provide you with several new pieces of information.

  • The South Park School District has two (2) remaining flexible instructional days available. Tuesday, March 31 will be Flexible Instructional Day #4. Wednesday, April 1 will be Flexible Instructional Day #5.

  • The South Park School District will then commence regular remote instruction on Thursday, April 2 and continue remote instruction through the closure period. Remote instruction procedures will vary by grade-level or school building. Communication specific for your child’s grade level or school building will be shared with you early next week.

  • Based on recent guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the district’s previously scheduled off-days for students over the next three weeks can remain on the district’s calendar. Therefore, instruction will not take place on Monday, March 30; Thursday, April 9; Friday, April 10; or Monday, April 13.

  • Information about the third grading period will be shared with families in the coming days.

  • Families without internet service are reminded to call their child’s school office and leave a voicemail so that a school administrator or staff member can work with them.

  • Grab-and-go meal distribution for families who qualify for free and reduced-price meals will continue Monday-Friday next week (March 30-April 3) at the lower concession stand of Eagle Stadium from 10 a.m. to noon.

We cannot predict how this pandemic will impact instruction and operations beyond Monday, April 13. We continue to develop plans for as many scenarios that we can anticipate. However, as we have seen in the past few weeks, the situation changes rapidly.

We look forward to sharing our continuity of education plan with you early next week.

UPDATE SHARED ON MONDAY, MARCH 23

Based on the directive from Governor Tom Wolf and the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the South Park School District will remain closed through at least Monday, April 13, 2020. The earliest the South Park School District could reopen would be Tuesday, April 14, 2020. This, however, is tentative and subject to change based on this rapidly-evolving situation. This lengthened closure is absolutely necessary to ensure the health and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and community. District events and activities are suspended, postponed, or canceled through Monday, April 13.

The South Park School District will continue its previously announced plan to implement its second flexible instructional day on Tuesday, March 24. Students and families will be reminded of flexible instructional day procedures via phone and email on Tuesday morning. The district will also use its third flexible instructional day on Thursday, March 26.

District administrators are currently finalizing continuity of education plans with the hope of beginning remote learning and providing continuous educational materials soon. These plans will take into account equity and all local, state, and federal guidelines. Additional information on these plans will be shared with families in the coming days.

Once again, we appreciate your ongoing cooperation and patience. Much more information about our continuity of education plans, school calendar changes, and postponed activities and events will be shared with families soon.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education has announced the cancellation of all PSSA testing, Keystone exams, and Pennsylvania Alternate System of Assessment (PASA) for the 2019-2020 school year.
