Week of October 15-19, 2018


Monday 10.15.18-We will explore the regions of the US. Students will learn the 5 regions and which states belong to each region. We'll discuss the characteristics that each region shares. We will explore the states and their locations on the US map. Students should check this website for interactive games to practice the states and regions. As with anything, practice, practice, practice will help with their learning. 

HWK: Color a map of the US by region (if not completed in class). Study the location of the states. The states/regions test is Friday, Oct. 19th. 

Tuesday 10.16.18 Students will be participating in a mapping activity challenge to help them learn the locations of the regions and states within the US. They will color, cut and glue the states by region to a map of the US. This will be a 10 point class activity grade. 

HWK: Complete the mapping activity challenge (if not completed in class). Study the location of the states. The states/regions test is Friday, Oct. 19th. 


Wednesday 10.17.18 Students will continue to practice the states and regions in an interactive and competitive game of Kahoot. 

Students were also assigned their Current Event Report for the 1st nine weeks. All of the requirements were discussed in class. Directions for the report may also be found on this website--see the tab to the left titled, "Current Event Report" and also may be found in the Google Classroom. All Current Event Reports are submitted online in the Google Classroom. The deadline for the report is Oct. 23rd. Students can expect to see this 50 point report each nine week period this year. 

HWK: Students will complete a blank US map for practice. Study the location of the states. The states/regions test is Friday, Oct. 19th. Current Event Reports are due Oct. 23rd. 

Thursday 10.18.18 Students will continue to practice their regions today. First we will begin with a "pop quiz" (ungraded, of course) to see how well we know the states and regions at this point. Then we will practice the states and their locations with a states jingle and songs. We'll play a review game to prepare for tomorrow's test. 

HWK: Students will complete a blank US map for practice. Study the location of the states. The states/regions test is tomorrow. Current Event Reports are due Oct. 23rd. 

Friday 10.19.18 Test on the regions and states of the USA. Students will be given a blank map with a list of the 50 states. They will be asked to label the states on the map, and then color code the regions.

Week of October 22-26, 2018


Monday 10.22.18-Student bell ringer notebooks will be assessed today for completeness and accuracy. A rubric was shared with the students last week on what they should expect for assessments. This is a 50 point nine week grade. Students also will practice their states and capitals for our upcoming test on Monday, November 5th. 
Students were also given  state/region project requirements in class today. A copy of these requirements was sent home with your child. Please sign and return the topic and permission slip. An additional copy is available on the Google Classroom for your reference. State/region projects are due Tuesday, November 13th. 

HWK: Current Event Report is due tomorrow.

Wednesday 10.24.18 Students will continue to present their current event reports today in class. We will also practice our states and capitals with some songs and jingles.
