The South Park School District’s main source of revenue is through local taxes. Due to the current coronavirus pandemic and the resulting economic impact, the district currently anticipates an approximate $1.5 million loss in revenue for the 2020-2021 fiscal year which begins July 1. This situation necessitated an emergency public meeting on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 to meet Pennsylvania School Code. District administrators and the Board of Directors are considering a number of different scenarios to address this budget shortfall, among them are staff furloughs. The resolution passed at the special meeting on April 29 was to comply with the Pennsylvania School Code regarding the furlough of professional employees for economic reasons. The resolution outlines the possible 5.2% reduction in professional staff and the possible 8.3% reduction in administrative staff for the 2020-2021 school year. No district staff members have been furloughed at this time. District administrators will present a preliminary budget to the Board of Directors at its May meeting. A final budget must be passed by the Board of Directors by June 30, 2020.
