This morning, Governor Tom Wolf ordered all Pennsylvania schools to close through the end of the academic year. This decision means that remote learning in the South Park School District will continue until the last day of school. Instruction for seniors will end on Friday, May 22. Instruction for kindergarten to eleventh grade will end on Friday, May 29.

This decision may require a few adjustments to our continuity of education plan which now will continue through the 2019-2020 school year. If any modifications are made to our remote learning plan for your child’s school building, they will be communicated to you by your child’s principal.

Today’s guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Education provided some information to districts regarding end-of-year events, including graduation. According to the Department of Education, “when closure restrictions are lifted by the Governor, [districts] may consider the appropriateness of holding such gatherings” based on the restrictions and social distancing recommendations from health experts at that time. We cannot predict what the guidance and restrictions will be. However, we can and will develop multiple plans for a number of different scenarios when it comes to these cherished and special moments in our students’ lives while focusing on everyone’s health and safety. We will communicate additional details when we are able to do so.

District buildings will remain closed. Personal belongings left in lockers or classrooms will be distributed once the closure order is lifted. Those students needing educational materials from their lockers/classrooms should contact their building principal to discuss this request.

Meal distribution for children 18 years of age and younger will occur next week on Tuesday, April 14; Wednesday, April 15; Thursday, April 16; and Friday, April 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the lower concession stand of Eagle Stadium. Please use the lower stadium entrance off Eagle Pride Lane on the South Park School District campus.

Further updates regarding this extended closure will be shared with families when we have them.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation during these challenging times. We hope you have a healthy and safe spring break.
